The role
The NCETM’s School and Professional Development Team oversees a range of professional development opportunities – known as Network Collaborative Projects – within the NCETM and Maths Hubs Programme. The team leads on the suite of Specialist Knowledge for Teaching Mathematics (SKTM) programmes and works closely with the Primary and Secondary Team to ensure a coherent and consistent message about teaching for mastery in schools. The team also leads on the development programmes that support local leaders of mathematics education.
Assistant Directors provide credible, authoritative maths school improvement and professional development expertise to facilitate a coherent strategy for maths across the system, and enhance the work of the Maths Hubs Programme and ensure that its aims and activities appropriately support the KPIs from the DfE contract.
The person
- A teaching qualification and significant expertise in teaching secondary maths.
- Experience of leading effective maths professional development for teachers.
- A deep understanding and experience of maths teaching for mastery in secondary schools.
- Successful experience of observing teaching and learning, giving constructive feedback and developing strategies to support the improvement of performance.
- A successful track record of leading and implementing strategies to drive continuous improvement in maths in more than one school with evidence of leading and managing change.
- Relevant expertise and ability to lead national developments, particularly in the area of teaching for mastery in schools.
